Coín: The benefits of inland Spanish properties near Marbella

Coin Malaga

If you are considering following the sunshine, either moving permanently or purchasing a holiday home, Marbella is name on most people’s lips when they are looking at property for sale on the Costa del Sol. There is no denying Marbella is an exciting, cosmopolitan and iconic destination that evokes sophistication and glamour, but is it the right destination for you and family’s needs?

Marbella’s reputation and celebrity pulling power are evident in the consistently high demand for coastal villas in Marbella, and rising property prices, which can limit the choice of available to buyers on a tighter budget. But what if you could live close to Marbella, so that you benefit from all of the amenities, yet without the higher cost?  By considering inland Spanish properties, you not only get much more for your money, you can also benefit in many other ways.

A ready-made community

There are only 22,000 people in Coín, of which a fairly large chunk Coín’s population are expats (13%).  Relocating oversees or even to a new town can be daunting, especially if you are unfamiliar with the lifestyle and language. It can be reassuring and make finding your feet and settling in much easier, if you know that you can look for support in a lively expat community. Coín offers the best of both worlds; the opportunity to mix with locals and expats alike.

Slow down, live in the moment

One of the common themes mentioned in any guide book about Coín is the scent fruit in the air. This is because there are literally hundreds of orange, lemon and olive groves covering Coín’s gloriously unspoilt countryside.

When you live in the countryside away from the hustle and bustle, you gain a new appreciation for nature. There is nothing quite so relaxing as a walk in the countryside, no crowds, just nature and being present in the moment… and it doesn’t hurt that the air is perfumed with the aroma of fresh fruit.

Live better for less money

If you prefer to build your own dream home as opposed to buying an existing Costa del Sol property, you are more likely to source the perfect land for sale in the countryside, as land is scarcer and more expensive on the coast.

It isn’t only property that costs less in the countryside, another advantage of considering looking at rural houses for sale, is that the cost of living is lower.  Firstly, you have access to an abundance of wide-open countryside, lakes and streams, that is completely free to roam around in at your leisure. You may also be able find the perfect property with land for sale, with established almond or olive groves or orchards.

Eating out becomes cheaper the further you move away from popular tourist areas, where you will be charged a premium. Inland, prices are cheaper, as rents and other overheads are lower, plus the businesses tend to operate all year round, as opposed to relying on seasonal business.

You can also save money on your utility bills, as many of the Spanish country houses for sale can generate their own power and have an independent water supply.

Avoid the crowds

Unsurprisingly, overseas buyers looking for a holiday home or permanent residence in the Spanish sunshine are drawn to the coast; who doesn’t love a sea view and days lazing on the beach?

However, the popularity of living close to such a popular holiday location that will be awash with tourists during high season may become a little bothersome. Around 33 per cent of Málaga’s apartments are bought by foreigners, swelling the number of people who living near or holidaying on the coast.

If live in Coín, you can avoid the crowds, except for when you feel like getting into the thick of things. Whenever you feel the urge to enjoy a night on the town or go to one of Marbella’s iconic beach clubs, restaurants or splash some cash in a designer store in Puerto Banús…no problem, Marbella is literally less than 30 minutes’ drive in the car.

You get to enjoy the best of both worlds; you can jump in the car and be on the beach in less than 30 minutes, and then when you are ready, you can leave the crowds, noise and coastal hubbub behind as you head back to your inland sanctuary.

Healthy retirement

If you are considering retiring to Coín, the Spanish campo offers many wonderful health benefits, including the fresh air and open spaces. You will also have access to a medical centre, doctors and clinics, and for serious conditions or treatment, there are superb healthcare facilities including the Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella.

On the flip side…

If you are planning on setting up a business and need reliable internet, online shopping and deliveries, then it is advisable to look for a property that has good access.

Every family has different requirements, preferences and budgets, but rather than just following the crowd and heading for Marbella, it is definitely worth investigating and comparing the type and price of houses for sale in Coín.
