Summer is coming, so get ready for romerÃas and ferias aplenty.
Here is our pick from the events coming up this May through August. Let us know if we missed out any good ones!
May
1st: El Festival de Gastronomia Guaro. Come to the beautiful village of Guaro to try local dishes and vote for your favourite. Start your day at 12.00 in the Centro Cultural Al-Andalus and pick up a site map of all the bars taking part. Think of the day like a bar crawl with tapas, does it get any better than that?
1st: Romeria de Villafranco de Guadalhorce. To honor the patron saint Nuestra Señora MarÃa Auxiliadora, the people of Villafranco de Guadalhorce carry a float of the Virgin Mary down to the Rio Grande on this anual pilgrimage.
2nd – 5th: FerÃa de CoÃn de Mayo: The first of two CoÃn ferias begins on the 2nd with day ferÃas taking place on Friday the 4th and Saturday the 6th. Soak up the atmosphere at the day feria and let yourself be dazzled by the fairground lights at the feria de noche.
17th – 27th: Festival de Gastronomia Málaga. The anual Gastronomy festival in Málaga kicks off on the 5th of May, this year focusing particually on Basque cuisine. Find a full itinerary of events here.
19th – 20th: Romeria de Guaro. Another romeria, this time in honor of San Isidro Labrador (more about him here). The Romeria in Guaro takes place over the weekend, carrying the Patron Saint over the mountain to the river on Saturday, having a big party, making a huge paella (enough to feed the whole village) for Sunday lunch and walking back over to the cerro to the village that evening.
24th – 28th: FerÃa de Alhaurin el Grande. Put on your dancing shoes, it’s feria time in Alhaurin el Grande!
June
2nd & 3rd: Romeria de CoÃn. Are you ready for the CoÃn romeria? Get all our handy tips and tricks here.
22th – 26th: Feria Alhaurin de la Torre. The thing that stands out the most to me about the Alhaurin de la Torre feria is the quanity of live acts playing in the different themed casetas. Here are few pictures from the A. de la Torre feria from a couple of years ago, we had a great time!
July
23rd – 26th: FerÃa de La Alqueria. La Alqueria isn’t one of the most well known areas in the region however their ferÃa is said to be one of best around!
August
11th – 19th: FerÃa de Málaga. The most impressive feria in the region has got to be the Málaga edition. Lasting for over a week, the centre of Málaga gets transformed for the day ferÃa, the streets lined with temporary bars and stages. Then, if your survive the day ferÃa, head down to the official ferÃa ground adorned with flashing lights, fair ground rides and party tents. This is a spectacle not to be missed!
23rd – 26th: FerÃa de Guaro. Wrapping up the summer with one of the final ferias of 2018, Guaro. Think families, friends, pretty flamenco dresses and a buzzing atmosphere.
