Cartama is one of the larger of Malaga’s inland towns, located at the heart of the Guadalhorce Valley at the head of the Guadalhorce River. Being only 17kms from Malaga city centre, it’s perfectly positioned as a commuter town, holiday and tourist destination, and also offers some of the best value property for sale in Andalucia.
It is a fantastic destination for outdoor pursuits, offering clean air and plenty of hiking, cycling and riding routes. Similar to its rural neighbours, Cartama is surrounded by expansive swathes of country and its elevated position affords wonderful views across the valleys and a sense of peace and quiet.
However, it isn’t all about tranquility and relaxation, Cartama can be quite a party town, with numerous hotels, restaurants and bars, found both the old town (Cartama Pueblo) and the Estación de Cartama. There is no shortage of fantastic places to sample delicious traditional Andalusian cuisine and tasty tapas.
Speaking of parties, Cartama’s annual feria in honour of the Virgin de Los Remedios, takes place in April and there are also many other events throughout the year including a Flamenco festival, the Verdiales music and dance festival and of course the Easter celebrations.
If you are into sightseeing, there are plenty of monuments to take in, such as the Cartama Castle, St.Peter’s Church and the Iron Bridge. Traditional markets are also colourful place to visit, where you can pick up almost anything, with a special market every month on the first Sunday called CartamaEco, specialising in locally grown organic produce.
There’s plenty of shopping opportunities in the pueblo and the Estación area of the town for every day goods, but if you feel a spending spree coming on or fancy a day on the beach, within 20 minutes you can reach Malaga’s main shopping centre and many of the fantastic beaches on the Costa del Sol.
All in all, this is great place to buy house in Malaga.
