The phrase comes form in the days of long ago when people used to cover their food between mouthfuls in case the flies, a source of disease in those times, came and landed on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-normal-font-size\">2. <em>Costar un ojo de la cara<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Literal translation: To cost an eye out of the face<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What it actually means: Spanish people use this phrase to express when something is expensive.
